Traffic Management Plan – Reminders & Update

Our Traffic Management Plan was updated in Term 4 last year with changes to traffic flow and the new pick up drop off areas (PUDO’s). Safety is our priority, and I would like to remind parents of the key updates to the Traffic Management Plan that are enforceable at all times, during the school week and at Saturday Sport.
Observe the 10kmph speed limit on school grounds including in car parks and internal roads.
Be respectful of our neighbours in local streets and be mindful of illegal parking and note that U-turns are not permitted at any time.
Hornsby Council will be conducting spot checks in the coming weeks for any cars parked illegally eg obstructing driveways, double parked, parked in no standing/no stopping zones.
Observe the new one-way internal road system:
Entry and travel along the new Link Road is one way with exit onto Mount Pleasant Avenue
Entry and travel along the Oval Car Park is one way with exit onto Osborn Road at Gate 3
The Slip Road is no longer accessible to cars. Please do not make arrangements to drop off or pick up your daughter from the Slip Road at any time, including after hours.
After hours pick up is at with the Oval or Link Road PUDO. Please do not pick up from the Gate 1 Car Park.
Last week, an Automatic Gate at the end of the Link Road onto Mount Pleasant Avenue was commissioned. This gate will open when the sensors are triggered, so please approach the gate slowly and proceed through once the gates have fully opened. These gates will remain open during peak periods in the morning and afternoon to allow for the traffic to flow as smoothly as possible.
Observe Pick Up times:
Primary parents: do not arrive before 3:05pm
Secondary parents (and those with siblings in Year 5-6): do not arrive before 3:15pm
Year 12 student parking will continue to be available in the Oval Car Park.

2023 Address Collection
The Department of Education has requested for Loreto Normanhurst to provide information to them, including residential address details for all students, for the purpose of calculating school funding.

Uniform Update Senika Wilkinson | Uniform Shop Manager
Students are required to wear the Winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3.

We encourage you to order your Winter uniform items via www.flexischools.com.au . If assistance is required when purchasing your Winter uniform items, our very helpful Uniform Shop staff are happy to assist you by email or over the phone.
As the Uniform Shop is in the process of moving to The Cottage at 6 Mount Pleasant Avenue, we can only offer very limited fitting appointments of the Winter tunic and blouse, with payment via Flexischools, until further notice. Please email the Uniform Shop to make an appointment if you require a fitting.
Primary School orders will be delivered to the Primary School and Senior School orders may be collected from the Uniform Shop.
Please ensure your order is placed prior to Monday, 27 March as this will allow ample time for collection or delivery.

Year 5 Lenten Deeds
As a class, 5R have been completing 40 Acts of Kindness for Lent. This has seen them achieve a variety of tasks that enable them to show appreciation for others, assist in understanding the world around them and supporting their social skills.
I enjoy the 40 acts of kindness because it helps us to make a daily habit out of being kind and to incorporate kindness in our everyday lives. It also reminds us about the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert during Lent.

I liked the 40 acts of kindness because it gives us a reminder to always be kind and during lent, we can try and be the best person we can be. The 40 acts of kindness are simple and easy things that we can do to make others happy!

Year 6 Leadership Liturgy
On Friday, 24 February our Year 6 students stepped up as compassionate and strong leaders of our Primary School. In front of their teachers and parents at our Primary Leadership Liturgy, they took the pledge of servant leadership and to be women for others. Below are some reflections from our Year 6 students.
Year 6 has been learning all about leadership as we have stepped up to the challenge of leading the Primary School. We have learned that leadership isn’t about just having a badge, but really listening to peers. We know that all the Year 6s are leaders, no matter if they have an official title or not! To us, leadership is about setting a positive example, building connections and empowering others to do their best. It’s letting everyone have a voice and learning from your mistakes. The whole of Year 6 is looking forward to leading the Primary School for 2023. Over the past fortnight, we have taken part in two very special and memorable leadership experiences; our Year 6 Leadership Liturgy and a Y-Lead incursion.

Our special Leadership Liturgy was on Friday of Week 4. Weeks before the Leadership Liturgy even started, we were writing our pledges which reflect on our own personal commitments that we will make as leaders of the Primary School, including empowering others and listening to all voices. Each Year 6 girls walked down the aisle of the Chapel. We were all anointed with oil by Ms Ugonotti and she said some special words to us. We also read our pledges with the whole grade and also read our individual one that we wrote, so that others could witness our commitment and promises. The leaders got their badges from Ms Ugonotti, and also got some very special words. The parents then came down to the Primary Quad and we had delicious morning tea. This day was very fun and enjoyable!

Last Friday, all of Year 6 attended a very jubilant leadership liturgy where our Principal, Ms Ugonotti, joyfully anointed us with oil to symbolically demonstrate that we are all now officially leaders of the Primary School. In preparation for this special occasion, each Year 6 student wrote a personal pledge regarding their leadership goals for 2023. At the end of the year, each Year 6 student will receive their pledges back to evaluate how they achieved their leadership goals. Parents, loved ones and teachers attended the liturgy to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of the House and School Leaders and all of Year 6 who are now officially Primary School Loreto Normanhurst Leaders.

Y-Lead was fun incursion that Year 6 took part in, which showed us how to be leaders of the Primary School by doing teamwork activities and games. My team did physical strength exercises which showed us how much we were capable of with teamwork. There were also riddles to solve and a mathematician's activity. It was tricky and really challenged us! One of our tasks was to build the tallest spaceship out of texters. We also had to get ourselves into alphabetical order by our middle names - but without speaking! From Y-Lead I learned that leadership is not always about getting a badge, it's about helping others, collaboration and showing generosity.
Year 5 - NAPLAN 2023
NAPLAN is scheduled for Year 5 on Wednesday, 15 to Monday, 20 March.
The Testing Schedule is as follows:

Friday, 17 March – 9:20am–Language Conventions
Monday, 20 March – 9:20 am –Numeracy
Please note that your daughter is well prepared for NAPLAN, as the work that she completes across all of her subject areas is ample preparation for these assessments and there is no need for additional study. Students will also engage in online demonstration tests to familiarise themselves with the testing platform prior to the NAPLAN commencement.
Students will need to bring:
iPad- fully charged
Headphones or ear buds – preferably plug in
A pen (working out paper will be available)

IPSHA Basketball Trials

Primary Debating Nominations
Nominations will open for Primary Students to nominate for the various debating competitions that will be held in 2023. This year we will be involved in the following competitions.
Australian National Virtual Debating Competition
IPSHA Debating
Students can register to try out for these teams via a form that will be published on Sentral and broadcast out to families on Tuesday, 7 March.
Please ensure you have read the PDF’s for each activity as they contain the dates for these competition. These will be sent out with the Registration Form.
Please also note that coaching will occur on Thursday’s in Term 2 from 3:30pm – 4:30pm. Coaching will be for both competitions and is compulsory for all students who are selected.

We are reaching out to provide feedback on the events that were held during Semester Two, 2022. Your input is extremely valuable as it helps us plan and improve our events. This survey is anonymous, and all responses are confidential and will be used solely for the purpose of continuous event planning. Riverview & St Aloysius P&F would like to invite Loreto Normanhurst parents to attend their “First Friday Drinks” at the Kirribilli Club for any parents and friends wishing to attend.
For over 10 years parents, old boys, past parents, teachers, and friends including parents from other schools, unmarried and married people have been coming along. Just by showing up and or reaching out to someone who may be experiencing hardship we're creating a night out for those who really need some social connections amongst friends both new and old.
It is a great way to get some balance back into busy lives filled with parental, work and other duties and contribute by sharing one's experiences and company as well as just having fun in a relaxed un-threatening social environment and a night out for those who might otherwise be on their own. Our aim is to do a good deed, make the world a little smaller, warmer, and friendlier. Everyone is made to feel welcome.
Please pass this on to any colleagues, friends or family who might be interested and please reach out to anyone who might be on their own or tell them to get in touch. No cost to attend, just buy your own drinks.
RSVP - if you can (to give us some idea of numbers), just turn up or let Rosie know if you want someone to go with or to meet you outside, the location is stunning, and it is easy to find us in the U Bar on level 1 next to the Restaurant!
